Restoration project updates coming soon. Most everything is on hold right now since the main focus in on the oil!

Here's a new volunteer opportunity to help wildlife affected by the oil spill.

Clearwater Wildlife Sanctuary is setting up a Standby Wildlife Transport Team, in coordination with the Humane Society of Louisiana, as requested by U.S. Fish and Wildlife in order to transport supplies and cargo from coastal locations to supportive wildlife care facilities.

Do you qualify to volunteer for the Standby Wildlife Transport Team? It is easy to qualify! You need no training or licenses other than a driver's license.

Requirement 1 - you MUST have an air-conditioned vehicle, and the animals must be transported inside the air-conditioned passenger compartment of the vehicle. There is currently no compensation to volunteers for gas spent during transport.

Requirement 2 - you MUST be able to assign a day to be on call should the need arise for animal transport. You may or may not be called to duty on your assigned day, but once assigned, that day is yours and those animals are counting on you!

Requirement 3 - US Fish and Wildlife Service, Clearwater Wildlife Sanctuary and the Humane Society of Louisiana would require your signature stating that you agree to certain guidelines in order to ensure protection of wildlife and your safety during this special volunteer assignment.

You would be working under Team Leader Jeff Dorson, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Louisiana, in collaboration with Clearwater Wildlife Sanctuary and US Fish and Wildlife Service.

To volunteer visit The Humane Society of Louisiana's website and complete the volunteer form.  You will then be contacted to schedule a date(s) to volunteer. If you would like to devote more than one day, just let them know! The goal is to try and schedule one to two persons per day to perform transports. You would be "on call" for that day. Please do not plan anything else on the day you volunteer, as you will be on standby and may be needed at a moment's notice to join in the transport efforts

Your efforts will help animals affected by the oil spill.
